You don't need to be rich to look great. In fact, you can dress better than many people who are rich! This is how I do it:
Find your colors.
If you're not sure what colors look good on you, take a moment to consider what colors are already in your wardrobe. If it's very diverse or mostly neutral, then there are probably some obvious standouts--but if it's mostly blue jeans and t-shirts, then that's probably not going to be helpful! Instead of trying to change who you are (which may require an entirely new wardrobe), try incorporating more color into what works for who YOU want to be. For example: if I know that I love wearing black pants and red tops but am missing some blouses in those two shades (and maybe even some shoes), then those would be great additions for my closet because they'll make me feel like myself while also giving me options for pairing them together with other pieces from my existing wardrobe.
Get a bunch of tops.
Tops are the most important part of an outfit, so you want to make sure you have enough in your closet. You can mix and match them to create a new look, or simply wear one top with different bottoms each day. Tops are also a great way to add color to an outfit--there's no need to spend money on anything else if you already have some colorful tops!
-
Choose flattering styles for your body type: If you have wide shoulders/chest or large arms/legs, try wearing loose-fitting tops that cover up all the bulges. If this is not possible (for example if the shirt is really tight), then try using accessories such as scarves or jackets overtop of them instead of wearing tight clothes underneath them which will only draw attention away from what matters most - YOU!
Get some basics.
-
Basics are a great investment. You can mix and match them with your other clothes, so they don't have to be worn alone. For example, if you get black jeans or pants, you can wear them with almost any top in your closet!
-
Thrift stores are the best place for finding basics at a low price! You might even find some designer brands there too!
Invest in an amazing pair of jeans.
Jeans are a staple of every wardrobe, and they can be worn with other items to create a cohesive look. They're also an investment piece that you can wear for years.
Investing in an amazing pair of jeans is a great way to start building your wardrobe because they're versatile and have so many different uses. You can wear them with anything from dresses to sneakers, depending on how dressed up or dressed down you want your outfit to be!
Find a pair of shoes you love and never stop wearing them.

Find a pair of shoes you love and never stop wearing them.

Shoes are the most important part of your outfit, so finding the right pair is essential. This can be tricky because everyone's feet are different, but once you find comfortable shoes that fit like a glove and allow you to walk in them all day long without your feet hurting (even if it means breaking them in), they will work wonders for improving the overall look of any outfit.
-
Make sure that whatever shoe style or brand you choose has versatility as well--for instance, consider whether this shoe would be appropriate for jeans or dresses as well as pants or skirts.
Accessorize it all up!
Accessories are the icing on the cake. They can be a statement piece, or they can add color and texture to your look. In fact, accessories are one of my favorite ways to make an outfit stand out without spending too much money--and it's pretty easy!
Let's say you have $100 to spend on accessories: I'd recommend buying three pieces from one store (or finding three stores with similar styles). That way it doesn't look like you tried too hard but also adds some cohesion to your outfit
